RSS and Podcasts

RSS and Podcasts help you receive new Spotlight programs, without your having to visit the Spotlight website. RSS offers you the program scripts; podcasts offer you the program sound as MP3.

What is an RSS feed?

Some people say that RSS is short for "Really Simple Syndication", "Rich Site Summary", or maybe something else.

However, these exact words are not important. An RSS feed (also known as a news feed) is a particular kind of service from a website. With RSS, the website offers regular information to a list of people who have asked for it.. You get on the list ('subscribe') using an RSS 'reader' or 'aggregator'. The RSS aggregator shows you any new information the website has to offer, along with a link. Our website uses it to offer you new scripts of 'Spotlight' radio programs. When Spotlight uploads new scripts to the website, your RSS reader will tell you. It will update with links to the scripts.

What is a podcast?

The word podcast comes from two words, iPod and broadcast. iPods are the most popular form of mp3 music player. You do not 'tune in' to a podcast like you would 'tune in' to a radio broadcast. Instead, you subscribe to it. That means that you choose which podcasts you like. Then the website sends those podcasts directly to you. Your podcast software automatically downloads the audio files to your mp3 player or computer. It monitors the website for new audio files and downloads any new file when it is available.
